Family Cerambycidae (Longhorn Beetles)

Longhorn beetles are a large family of beetles, with over 35,000 species described, with most species characterized by their extremely long antennae, which are often longer than their body. Their larvae are often yellowish white and known as round-headed borers, because the front part of the larva is expanded to give it a rounded appearance. The larva feeds on woody plants for one to two years. When the larva is ready to pupate, it bores a tunnel into a tree, which the emerging adult uses to exit after development. Because of their wood-boring habits, long-horned beetles can be serious pests of timber and pulpwood, landscape, fruit trees, as well as woody ornamental plants.
